Free to be Me — In Christ

Be the you that God created you to be.

God created you with unique characteristics. God gave you gifts and special abilities to fulfill your special and unique assignment(s) here on the earth. However, He did not just create you for your purpose and/or assignment(s) here in the earth. He created you because he wanted you to exist so that He could love you and have a relationship with you forever. God was not satisfied with one man, Adam, to love and commune with, He wanted multitudes of individuals to love and live within. God then created us all unique individuals not carbon copies of an original, we are one of a kind originals.

God did not want multiple duplicates of Adam and Eve, meaning we all look alike physically and have the same voice tones etc., no with our uniqueness comes variety. We don’t all have to choose the color blue as our favorite color or like the same kinds of foods or enjoy the same leisure activities. However, our uniqueness was not given to us to cause division, jealousy and strife. Satan uses difference many times to conjure up lies to cause disruptions in godly fellowships. He ignites fires of hatred and brings offenses through venomous acts of competitive jealousy, unhealthy insecurities, etc. providing an open door for sin/disobedience.

The bible records in the book of Genesis the account of brother (Cain) rising up and killing brother (Abel).

“And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LordAnd she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground. And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LordAnd Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell. And the Lord said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him. And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother’s keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground.”

–Genesis 4:1-10

There is a lot we can gleam from these verses of scripture. Cain and Abel had different assignments requiring different giftings. God did not create one brother superior and one inferior. However, it is obvious that over a process of time Cain began to see his brother as a problem an this infectious corrupt thinking lead to murder.

God did not make you unique so that you could be superior to someone else. No human being was created to be inferior and/or superior to another. Cain was angry and he allowed his anger to grow into a root of bitterness which defiled him.

We must stay in the light of God’s Word which keeps us free from the corruption and/or pollution of darkness.

The scripture clearly instructs us not to compare ourselves with others. This is sound wisdom to protect us from going astray.

“However, when they measure themselves with themselves and compare themselves with one another, they are without understanding and behave unwisely.”

–2 Corinthians 10:12b (AMP)

Thank God for your unique qualities but don’t become prideful because pride is a sin and sin produces death. God loves you so very much and His love is enough for you to never have a reason to feel inferior or insecure about who He has uniquely created YOU to be!

Great is the Lord

Listen to the heart of a worshipper as this Psalmist sings from his heart to God. What an awesome insight into the character and nature of Almighty God. True praise and worship leads us to deeper realms of knowing God. Every born- again spirit longs to fellowship and know God more. Enjoy as you gleam from a heart filled with adoration to our God. Let us also seek to worship Him more in spirit and in truth!

Psalms 145

I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever. Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. One generation shall praise thy works to another, and shall declare thy mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honour of thy majesty, and of thy wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of thy terrible acts: and I will declare thy greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of thy great goodness, and shall sing of thy righteousness. The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD: and let all flesh bless his holy name for ever and ever.

Power in Praise

Psalms 103: 1-2

Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name.

Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits:

The psalmist was exercising spirit control over soul control. He refused to allow his soul and body to dictate his covenant praise for God. Yes, covenant praise. We were created to praise and worship God. The scriptures tell us “let everything that hath breath praise the Lord”!

The psalmist said “everything within me”. That means we should never halfheartedly praise God. We should not allow our soul to go on a spiritual vacation when we praise and worship our wonderful, worthy Lord. We need to take control and command our soul and body to be in unity with our spirit to praise God with everything that is within us. God’s presence demands respect, honor and praise. To resist the unction to function in a spirit of praise in His presence is nothing short of pride and rebellion. God deserves radical praise. He is worthy of humble adoration. God inhabits the praises of His people. Wherever God is there is power. The power of God is not only released in us but through us to others as well. God’s power plus your praise is an unbeatable pair. Go ahead, release God’s power in your neighborhood, in your family, in your marriage, and on your job through your unified: spirit, soul and body praise.

The Greater One

1 John 4:4

Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

The word “greater” is synonymous with words like bigger, superior, larger and better. The above scripture reveals to us, children of God, that the reason we are over comers is not because we are great in and of ourselves, but because of He who is greater in us. There is one who lives in us who is God–God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. These three persons are great therefore they make us over comers.

We must remember that we are in the world , but the world is not in us. God is in us. It is not what is on the outside of a person that makes the person who they are, it’s what and who is on the inside. God is bigger, better, superior and larger in comparison to any and everything that is in the world.

Notice that this scripture says “than he“, indicating that this is a being. The “he” that is in the world is our enemy Satan. He opposes God, but he is inferior on all levels to God. Satan has never been equal or nowhere near God’s level of being. The scripture reminds us that there is no one like God. He is God alone, Majestic and Awesome in all His ways. God is Greater in you than he that boast himself to be great in the world. So, Rejoice and be exceedingly glad God, Himself lives in you. What an awesome revelation!

Love’s Power

Romans 5:7-9 (AMP)

Now it is an extraordinary thing for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die. But God shows and clearly proves His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us. Therefore, since we are now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship with God) by Christ’s blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.

It is comforting to know that the Love of God never fades out or becomes obsolete. Even in the midst of great trials, just to know that Love is there is more precious than silver and gold. Love never fails. Love will always stand by your side even when others walk away. Love is consistent it is not for you one day and against you the next day. Love is infuses you with strength enabling you to walk through the valley and shadow of death and fear no evil. Love allows you to see the plans and strategies of your enemies but still pray for them. The power of Love teaches you to trust God. Trust is not natural it is supernatural. Human nature is anchored in fear and fear short circuits a person’s ability to trust. The power of Love will cast out fear and provide and new rich health environment n your heart that fosters trust. The power of Love can break the chains of any form of darkness. The power of Love is faithful, it will never abandon you. Love will break through the veil of loneliness and grief. Love will hold you up and prevent you from falling. Love will secure your borders and protect you from every enemy attach. Love will not leave you open, it will cover your back. Love will never ignore a tear that rolls down your cheek; it will comfort the strong and the meek. Love is never bored with you or shuts its door to you. Love will never belittle your worth or reject you; with open arms it always is there too welcome and accepts you. Love is not selfish but always thinking about you with affection and good will to shower upon you.

The power of Love lives on the inside of you.

Enough

2 Corinthians 12:9

And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

The word sufficient means:

• Enough

• As much as is needed

Many times we think we need something more to help get us through a situation or a hard time. The pressure of the situation causes needless anxiety which in turn produces insecurities and “what if’s.” We must learn to rely on the grace of ALMIGHTY GOD.

We must believe that God’s grace is enough. No test or trial can outwit or over power the grace of God.

God’s grace is infused with strength and ability. It will help us through anything. Grace is not just a prayer you say over your food. Grace is God’s ability working in you and for you. So, as you walk through the valley and shadow of death know that His grace is enough.

Making the Right Decisions

Sometimes in life we can be faced with tough decisions. Should I stay or should I go? Decisions we make everyday can be life altering, they can bring life or death. Some decisions we make are very simple and nonessential. What shall I eat for dinner tonight or what flavor ice cream for dessert? Generally, the answers to those questions are not life threatening and carry a minimal degree of importance. However, there are decisions we must make in life that are vital to our daily life and success. There maybe decisions we have to make that involve more than just our own lives.

How do we make tough decisions? How do we resolve what to do, when we don’t know what to do?

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

God has every answer we will ever need to make the right decisions for our lives and those who trust us to make decisions involving their lives. He will never fail us. All we need to do is come to Him and ask for help. Why shop around when the Greater One lives right on the inside of you? No one has greater counsel than God and besides He is always available.

Your life is too precious to entrust to the opinions of mere unchanged men. God says that our thoughts are not His thoughts (Isaiah 55:8). When we seek human guidance we limit and obscure godly wisdom. We must trust God and seek Him for every area of our lives not just the things and/or situations that seem impossible. He wants to be involved in everyday life. He said in the above scripture – in all our ways to acknowledge Him. Many times people are so use to controlling their own lives and making all the decisions themselves that when they really seek God for help they are unfamiliar with His ways so they miss out on His instructions. They are so use to doing things their own way without any Divine input that they overlook the gentle leading of the Holy Spirit, our Comforter.

Making the right decision involves seeking with patience and persistence the plans and purposes of God and not being in a hurry to carelessly and anxiously rush into choosing without His counsel.

Jeremiah 33:3 (AMP)

Call to Me and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, fenced in and hidden, which you do not know (do not distinguish and recognize, have knowledge of and understand).

So slow down and be willing to throw down every thought and suggestion that comes to you to tempt you into making your own decisions without God. Practice waiting on The Lord and be of good courage!

Are You Sleeping, Are You Sleeping?

When I was a child we would to sing a nursery rhyme that went like this;

Are you sleeping, Are you sleeping,

Brother John? Brother John?

Morning bells are ringing, Morning bells are ringing.

Ding, dang, dong. Ding, dang, dong.

It is a French children’s song called Frère Jacques. Some of you may remember its tune, okay……….. I’m sorry, now it will be stuck in your memory and you’ll be humming it all day.

Well, in this nursery rhyme the question is posed, “Are you sleeping? With the intent of making it known it was morning and time to wake up. Natural sleep is necessary if we want to keep our bodies and souls refreshed and healthy but spiritual sleeping is a no, no. Natural sleep helps the body to rest and recuperate from a hard day’s work of efficiently keeping all its systems functioning properly while you eat, work and play all day. It is good wisdom to give your body proper rest and not to run it down and abuse it. On the other hand a person can sleep too much becoming lazy and slothful thus jeopardizing their destiny and future, of course this kind of lifestyle is unacceptable and detrimental for any Christian life. “Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger (Proverbs 19:15).

Sleep defined:

A state of partial or full unconsciousness in people and animals, during which voluntary functions are suspended and the body rests and restores itself, or a period spent in this state.

When someone is sleeping they are somewhat vulnerable because they become unaware of their surroundings and totally oblivious to any threat of danger that maybe lurking about.

In the book of Thessalonians the writer warned Christians about spiritual sleeping.

For you are all sons of light and sons of the day; we do not belong either to the night or to darkness. Accordingly then, let us not sleep, as the rest do, but let us keep wide awake (alert, watchful, cautious, and on our guard) and let us be sober (calm, collected, and circumspect). For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who are drunk, get drunk at night. But we belong to the day; therefore, let us be sober and put on the breastplate (corslet) of faith and love and for a helmet the hope of salvation. For God has not appointed us to [incur His] wrath [He did not select us to condemn us], but [that we might] obtain [His] salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ (the Messiah) Who died for us so that whether we are still alive or are dead [at Christ’s appearing], we might live together with Him and share His life (1Thessalonians 5:5-10 (AMP).

It is imperative that we remain spiritually alert and watchful in the day and hour that we live. We must maintain spiritual insight and be keen in our discernment so that we will not fall prey to our enemy’s devices and strategies to try to defeat us. We must guard ourselves against the temptation to take a spiritual nap or drift away into daydreaming when we should be wide awake and focused. In a natural war nodding off when you are on guard duty can get your head cut right off. Your lack of perception and insight can cost you and others their lives. Spiritual drowsiness is a sign of weakness. It is a breech in commitment and responsibility and must be dealt with if the soldier is to remain in active combat. In the natural when people over indulge in carbohydrates they become very sluggish and sleepy rendering them virtually physically useless. In like manner with your spirit, if you are taking in loads of cares and worries you become weighed down, spiritually sluggish and sleepy, which renders you useless in a battle. So get detoxified of all those spiritual carbs and get active and be sober so that you can be useful to the Master. Stay spiritually alert!

The Wall

Walls divide and hide pride. Walls separate. Walls block. Walls hedge in or out. Walls fortify. Walls enclose. Walls can either trap you in or keep them out. Walls can be good or evil. What kind of walls have you allowed to form in your life over the years? Are those walls preventing you from going forward toward your God given destiny?

It is amazing that sometimes people think God will just come in their lives and start automatically tearing down walls, but He won’t. God will not touch or bother anything in your life unless you ask or allow Him to. God is not a thief, nor is He a robber. You must be willing to allow and welcome Him into your life affairs; He won’t just come in and take over.

God loves you, He wants you to live in victory, and overcome every obstacle that is positioned against your faith. His will is for you to go forward; to pursue and do the will of God. God has a plan for your life there is a good, acceptable, and perfect will of God for you. (Romans 12:1-2). God knows that if you continue to allow  walls to be built and fortified in your life, someday they will hinder your relationship  and fellowship with Him. So you must value your union and fellowship with God above the walls that try to distract and attract your attention and affection.

God is your only help and protection, those walls are not protecting you from anything. They are trying to keep you from your true source of eternal life, which is God. Maybe you have allowed those walls to be a sort of crutch for years and you depended and relied on them. They may even have seemed like they were actually helping you, but they cannot help. Walls don’t possess the power to help you, they are empty, just down-right hollow.

Don’t put your trust in walls, they will produce a false sense of security. Trust in the Lord (Proverbs 3:5-6), because He will never fail you. It’s time for every wall to fall, in the Name of Jesus! You were uniquely created by God to flourish and thrive. Your life is significant and special. You are valuable and victorious in Christ our Savor.

The scriptures tell us, “and ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32).

Begin to meditate (concentrate, focus, confess, think on) the Word of God, especially Mark 11:22-26;

and then start speaking to that wall and it will be removed from your life.

Be Bold and Be Courageous, God is on your side! Don’t be deceived by pride because it will make your foot slide into a pit of destruction. Obey God and be free at last from the walls of your past.

Following Through

Proverbs 15:4

In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

Integrity defined

• The quality of possessing and steadfastly adhering to high moral principles or professional standards.

Boundaries are established through integrity. If a person’s word is no good then the boundaries and standards they set up in their lives will always be compromised. Sometimes we fail to see the long term problems that come with not keeping our word even to ourselves. We tell ourselves we are not going to do such and such or that we are not going to go here or there and before the sun sets we have compromise or faltered on what we have spoken. We reason that it is okay because it was a personal promise and did not involve anyone else but little do we realize we our establishing a pattern of mistrust and lying to ourselves and eventually others.

Christians should be people of their word regardless of who the word was spoken to.

The scripture above states that we should be will to keep our word even if it hurts. Temporary inconveniences are a small thing compared to the consequences of a broken promise. When we likely esteem our own words we devalue the importance of words thereby opening the door to deception. Words are very important. We must remember the power of life and death is in our words. Lets us all endeavor to come up a little higher in our integrity by keeping our word even if it to our own hurt. If you don’t plan on doing it then don’t say it.
